Do Not worry Any Longer.
Dr Kanowitz can help you discover your new smile with the help of dental bridges.
A bridge is often recommended in restorative dentistry if you are missing one or more teeth. Gaps are left causing the remaining teeth to move and eventually resulting in a bad bite.
A bridge is a permanent procedure which covers the space where the teeth are missing. It is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. These two anchoring teeth are called abutments and a false tooth or multiple teeth (known as pontics) are in between.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
There are several benefits of having a bridge procedure. These include:
-
- Restores your smile
- Helps with the ability to chew and speak properly
- Prevents the remaining teeth from drifting out
- Supports jaw bone and cheeks to restore the shape of your face
- Corrects bad bites and gives you a well aligned smile

Types of Bridges
There are three main types of bridges in the market. Some of them are:
- Cantilever Bridge – Designed with abutment tooth (crown) on only one side of the false tooth (pontic). It is not recommended for back of the mouth where it can place too much pressure on other teeth and damage them.
- Fixed Bridge – This is a traditional bridge that has at least one pontic and crowns placed on either side of it. These are the most popular and are strong enough to replace molars.
- Adhesive Bridge – This type of bridge has a pontic that is held in place with a metal or porcelain wing. There can be either a single wing on the bridge or two wings attached on each side.
Materials For Bridges
Bridges can be made from different materials and have a variety of designs, which your dentist will discuss with you during the consultation.
At Dr. Kanowtiz, our dental technicians handcraft each bridge so you get the natural look that also sits comfortably in your mouth, giving you an excellent bite.
Looking after your dental bridges
Regular dental check-ups is essential for your oral health to remain healthy and ensure your teeth lasts a lifetime.
